Youth unemployment increases: How Carinthia wants to support young talents!

Klagenfurt, Österreich - The situation of young people on the job market remains tense. Despite the effort of the state and labor market service (AMS) to counteract unemployment, the situation is particularly precarious for 19- to 25 year olds. According to information from ORF Carinthia , the unemployment rate among young people rose by alarming 18 percent from 2023, while in February 2025 they already reached eleven percent. This is worrying because the number of open apprenticeships decreases and many young people get stuck in the so-called NEET group, i.e. without school graduation or teaching.

Pandemic has created additional challenges by leding young people to miss important learning content at school. Labor market officer Gaby Schaunig emphasizes that the fast -moving changes in today's world make it difficult to find a place on the apprenticeship market immediately. The state and AMS will meet the current challenges with an investment volume of almost 50 million euros in labor -relevant measures for 2025 to improve the opportunities for young people and promote their talents.

youth unemployment in Europe

Destatis , the youth unpeaking rate in Germany was only 6.9 percent in 2021, which is significantly below the EU average of 16.6 percent. The basic decline in youth unemployment in Germany over the past 15 years certifies that the dual training system offers real advantages. Nevertheless, countries such as Greece (35.5 %) and Spain (34.8 %) are badly affected, which underlines the problem of job search for young people across Europe.
