TCG Unitech before the bankruptcy: 882 jobs in danger - what comes now!

Although the Christmas season usually brings anticipation and a festive mood, the employees at TCG Unitech in Kirchdorf an der Krems are currently experiencing a fiasco: 882 out of a total of 960 employees were reported to the labor market service (AMS). This drastic measure is part of a dispute that places the company into deeper turbulence, since the management instead of wage increases of 4.8 percent, as agreed in the metal area, brings into play wage cuts and layoffs. According to the reports of Today.at and krone.at now the employees have to decide whether they accept the new contracts, contain wage reductions, or lose their jobs.

The company, which has been part of the Italian Gnutti Carlo Group since 2018, produces high -quality components for the automotive industry. TCG Unitech has an annual turnover of around 245 million euros and has production facilities at four locations in the Kirchdorf district. The effects of the ongoing difficulties in the automotive industry, including a debt load of around 1.8 billion euros, drive the management to reduce the positions drastically. According to Roswitha Grammer, the chairman of the works council, trainees and employees are excluded from the measure, which further increases the uncertainty among employees.

economic pressure and responsibility

The SPÖ reacts sharply to the decisions of TCG Unitech. State Managing Director Florian Koppler described how to deal with the employees as "particularly scandalous" and explained that warning questions about the labor market situation in Upper Austria are urgent. Instead of investing in employment and social programs, the current state government will let these important initiatives abandoned. "Unilateral burdens of the employees can and must not be a solution," Koppler clarifies. The political discussion is now becoming more intensive, while affected workers will be under enormous pressure in the coming weeks to secure their future.
