Strom crisis: AK Salzburg secures 144 million euros for households!

There are currently worrying developments for employees in Austria, especially with regard to dismissals during illness. According to Peter Eder, the President of the AK Salzburg, employees are under growing pressure. "On average, we are confronted with termination in sick leave once a week," said Eder. Employers try to avoid the financial burden of continued payment of wages in cases of illness. The situation is tense and leads to an increase in the cases processed by the Chamber of Labor, as reported.

An additional problem is the bankruptcy of 135 companies last year, including well -known names such as Kika/Leiner and the Salzburg chocolate factory. This resulted in the insolvency fee fund with a massive increase of 350 percent in 2024, with a total of 27 million euros. At the same time, there is a remarkable increase in inquiries to nursing care classification, since many affected people have to find that their claims by the pension insurance institution (PVA) are too low. The advisors of the Chamber of Labor win over 66 percent of these procedures, which underlines the urgency of the problem.

electricity prices under pressure

However, there were important positive developments in the area of electricity prices. AK Salzburg was able to reach an agreement with Salzburg AG, which brings consumers to a relief of over 140 million euros. The investigation commissioned by the AK found that the announced price increases were illegal. "The expert opinion was the key to promoting the negotiations," said Eder in an interview with work-wirtschaft.at . The agreement included a reduction in the new electricity tariff from 27 cents to 19.9 cents per kilowatt hour and various relief packages for households. These measures show how substantial financial relief for citizens can be achieved through active action by the Chamber of Labor.

The AK Salzburg also reports an increase in consumer complaints, especially in cases of illegitimate claims due to the disability lawsuits. Eder calls for legal changes to better protect consumers. In one year with over 222,000 consultations, the figures for the need for advice show the importance of the Chamber of Labor in this uncertain economic period.
