Tax exemptions: More net for employees from December!
Tax exemptions: More net for employees from December!
In December 2024, employees in Germany can look forward to a higher net content. The reason for this is the measures taken as part of the tax relief, which were passed by the Federal Council on November 22, 2024. The law on the tax exemption of the subsistence minimum 2024 will be effective in retrospect on January 1, 2024.
One of the most important changes concerns the basic allowance, which is raised by 180 euros to a total of 11,784 euros. In addition, the tax child allowance is increased by 228 euros to 6,612 euros. These adjustments are taken into account in the salary statement for December 2024. According to the German taxpayer institute (DSI), singles with a gross salary between 2000 and 7000 euros benefit from an increase of around 34 euros, while families with two children and a gross salary can expect between 3500 and 8000 euros more.
further tax adjustments planned
Federal Finance Minister Christian Lindner (FDP) plans to make follow -up incidents on tax exemptions in the coming years. From January 2025, the basic allowance will increase by EUR 312 to 12,096 euros, and in 2026 a further increase is planned to 12,348 euros. The child allowance is to be raised in 2025 by 60 euros to 6,672 euros and in 2026 to 6,828 euros. These measures aim to compensate for the effects of inflation on the citizens.
In addition, as part of the inflation compensation law, the first level 2023 came into force, the basic tax allowance was 696 euros to 11,604 euros. The tax child allowance was also raised by 360 euros, while the maximum amount for the tax deduction of maintenance benefits has also increased. With these general adjustments, an attempt is made to counteract the "cold progression", which leads to higher taxes, although citizens face real income losses through inflation.
