Pension age increase: older workers in the crossfire!

Pension age increase: older workers in the crossfire!

In a startling debate about the statutory retirement age in Austria, Georg Knill, President of the Industrial Association (IV), has proposed to increase retirement age to 70 years. He expressed this in an interview in ZIB2 and refers to a recent consensus from Denmark. Knill calls for an honest discussion about securing the pension system and courageous reforms from the Federal Government. However, this proposal encounters considerable resistance.

The Pensioners' Association, represented by the interim president Helmut Bieler, has a clear position and decidedly reject an increase in retirement age. Bieler emphasizes that the assumption that older workers did not want to work was wrong. Rather, there is a lack of suitable workplaces for this age group, and older people are the most affected group in Austria. According to Bieler, a third of the long -term acting is over 50 years old, while a quarter is even older than 55.

long -term unemployment in older

In recent years, the problem of long -term unemployment of older workers has worsened. Anti -age attitudes in the economy mean that over a quarter of companies do not employ employees over 60. No older workers are represented in 85 percent of smaller companies. The Pensioners' Association therefore calls for a bonus-malus system that rewarded the company that hires older workers and punishes them that they push into the pension at an early stage.

Bieler also expressed concern about the fears, which are fueled by the discussion about an increase in the age of retirement. All pensioners' associations represented in the Austrian Senior Council are against this increase and criticize the attitude of the economic lobby, which is more profit than on social issues. Bieler makes it clear: "The companies are asked to find the solutions to integrate older workers."

Current studies and reports

In order to better understand the situation of older workers and the pension system, it is important to access current studies and reports. The [Ministry of Social Affairs] (https://www.social Ministry.gv.at/themen/sociales/socialversicherung/pension data ,-berichte-und-studien/bericht-und-studien.html) offers various documents that provide deeper insight into the legal regulations of pension insurance and examine the problems of old-age unemployment in more detail. A special analysis of the acquisition courses before the start of the pension could provide additional data on how the proposed pension aging age would affect the employment opportunities of older people.

In the light of these developments, the discussion about the pension system in Austria will probably continue to gain explosive. The responsibility lies with both the government and the economy to find a solution that meets the needs of all generations.
