Lindner warns of traffic lights and fights for the FDP future!

Christian Lindner, the chairman of the FDP, pointed out the importance of his party to the Bundestag at this year's Epiphany meeting in Stuttgart. During his speech on January 6, 2025, he clearly expressed that this was crucial for the survival of the FDP. In view of falling survey values of only 3 to 4 percent, he warned of a possible “traffic light light” that could be created under the Union candidate Friedrich Merz. Lindner therefore called for a fundamental change of policy in Germany and increased cooperation with the Union.

In his statements, Lindner criticized the CDU as a "political chameleon" that adapted to the respective coalition. In order to regain votes, in particular from AfD supporters, he emphasized the need to strengthen the economy and innovation and reduce bureaucracy. In this context, he expressed sharp criticism of the plans of the Greens Minister of Economics Robert Habeck to abolish the debt brake, which Lindner appreciated for additional debts of at least half a trillion by 2030. He also spoke out against the influence of Elon Musk on the German election campaign and described the AfD as "fifth column Moscow in Germany". The designated FDP general secretary Marco Buschmann also criticized the increase in state employees compared to industry.

Bundestag election: Lindner as a top candidate

In a further development, Lindner was unanimously elected to the top candidate of the FDP for the early Bundestag election in February. With a view to the election on February 23, he emphasized its strategic importance, both for the re -entry to the Bundestag and for future government formation. Lindner made it clear that without the FDP's participation, no black and green majority was possible and that a government of the middle was endangered. He described the upcoming weeks as a "hard and difficult time" for the party.

In his criticism of the current political situation, Lindner expressed concerns about the interference of the state in various areas, while many major challenges are handled inadequate. He warned that this could strengthen parties outside the "democratic center". The FDP board also advised on an election program, the financial relief, the dismantling of the state and the strengthening of personal responsibility. The proposed measures include tax cuts for employees and companies, flexible retirement and tightening migration policy.

In addition, the FDP calls for the delivery of Taurus marching aircraft to Ukraine and rejects the reinstatement of military service. Lindner also attached great importance to reforms in the education sector, such as the introduction of a nationwide Abitur, as well as on an increased base of trust in freedom and personal responsibility with a goal of less bureaucracy and more net in the state budget.
