Health insurance companies: change and save up to 850 euros!
On January 1, 2025, numerous health insurance companies increased their additional contribution rates. Around 88 percent of the health insurance companies have raised their contributions, such as Insurance Journal reported. Among these have 14 health insurance companies, which makes more than every seventh, raised the additional contribution by more than twice the year compared to the previous year.
The differences are considerable: with an additional contribution rate of only 1.84 percent, BKK Firmus is the cheapest nationwide health insurance, while the German pension insurance Knappschaft-Bahn-See demands 4.4 percent the highest sentence. A member of the cheapest cash register can save up to 850 euros a year compared to the most expensive health insurance. A total of 82 out of 94 health insurance companies increased their additional contributions, six coffers remained stable, but their sentences were already over three percent.
Current developments in health insurance contributions
The BKK Mobil recorded the highest increase with 2.4 percentage points, while the BKK Groz-Beckert had the largest percentage increase of 257 percent. The additional contribution rates of the four largest health insurance companies rose by 50 to 104 percent. The general contribution rate for statutory health insurance has remained unchanged at 14.6 percent since January 1, 2015. Both employers and employees bear half of the additional contribution.
A change to a cheaper health insurance company can be financially worthwhile for insured persons and enable savings of up to 846 euros a year. The change usually requires an application for admission to the new cash register and the informal information to the employer. It is particularly relevant that if the additional contribution rate is increased, a change without a binding period is possible. Information on the modalities of the change of health insurance is available on the website of the Federal Ministry of Health, such as Legal Krankenkassen.de noted.
