Fight for fair wages: Printing job center threatens to layoffs
Wien, Österreich - The management of Walstead-Leykam has announced that it would benefit around 60 employees from an existing collective agreement in retail or metal industry, but the remaining 155 employees of the company, in the print and graphic sector, will be empty. "There are no further discussions," said Chairman of the Works Council Marco Prohaska to ORF Burgenland. This means that the employees are still dependent on the collective agreement that has been announced since 2017, without a prospect of a new agreement. It has been emphasized that no fair wage increase has taken place since 2018 and that the last income adjustment had already been years ago.
collective agreement claims
Prohaska also pointed out that the unions, including the ÖGB and the GPA, require a fair wage adjustment for all employees and the willingness to seriously negotiate new collective contracts. The management itself refused to comment on ORF Burgenland. This situation creates uncertainty among the employees, since without progress in the negotiations, a wage adjustment in the near future seems unlikely, while employers rely on long -term economy.
At the same time, an existing collective agreement, which was concluded on December 1, 2014 between the Austrian Radio (ORF) and the Central Works Council of the ORF, refers to continuing uncertainty in the requirements for the employment relationships within this organization. It is crucial that the conditions under which the employees work, are clearly defined and mutual compromises in the collective agreement negotiations must be sought, as is also stated in the applicable collective agreement, which applies to all new employment relationships after February 28, 2015, such as kollivtrag.at emphasized.
