This represents an impressive increase of over 30 percent compared to the previous year, as the Chamber of Labor emphasized. A total of 126,363 consultations were carried out, whereby the focus was particularly on topics such as illegal terminations during sick leave, disputes about overtime and questions about the correct classification of employees.

Current challenges in labor law

A priority problem that was repeatedly addressed in the consultations concerns the cancellation of rehabilitation funds in the event of temporary disability. According to Maximilian Turrini, expert in labor and social law, the insurance companies are increasingly showing a stricter attitude when assessing health conditions. Another hotly discussed topic is the termination ban on sick leave. Chamber of Labor President Günther Goach expressed concern that employees are still not sufficiently protected against dismissals during illness and urgently called for a legal regulation to protect employees in such situations. According to reports from the Chamber of Labor, employers are often not willing to bear the risk of terminations, even if it is justified illnesses.

In addition, numerous success stories of cases were presented by cases in which the Chamber of Labor took decisive measures to create justice for their members. An example is the intervention for an intern who had to suffer in a hotel under exploitative conditions. The Chamber of Labor brought back 700 euros for outstanding overtime. These stories underline the need for the Chamber of Labor as a voice and protection for employees, as in other cases in which legal help was necessary.
