Wiener Christmas tree brings peace: Child wishes illuminate the UN!
Vienna International Center, Wien, Österreich - The city of Vienna once again presented a beaming four -meter -high Christmas tree to the United Nations employees, which was inaugurated on December 5, 2024 in the Majestic Rotunda of the Vienna International Center. This loving tradition was accompanied by the speeches by the President of the Landtag Ernst Woller, Unis Director Martin Nesirirky and Ambassador Gabriela Sellner, all of whom highlighted the importance of peace and cohesion. In his speech, Woller underlined the urgent need for peace negotiations in view of the conflicts worldwide and described the tree as a symbol of hope, consideration and coexistence, which is particularly important at Christmas time. He also thanked the children who had expressed their wishes and promised to take them seriously.
The Christmas tree decorations, which was made this year by children from various educational grätzln in Vienna, comprises a total of 1,000 glittering stars that stand for peace and cohesion. In addition, around 100 selected letters were presented with the wishes of the children that were created as part of a Vienna -wide campaign. These messages, which in accordance with the right of children are heard and participation in accordance with Article 12 of the UN Convention on the Rights of Children, were ceremoniously handed over to Ambassador Sellner and Landtag President Woller. The children of the VIC kindergarten then delighted those present with a song and a light dance, which contributed to the festive atmosphere before the Christmas tree was illuminated in full splendor.
