Students discover the care: a day full of joy in the retirement home!

Stoob, Österreich - On December 6, 2024, eight students from the middle school in Stoob took part in the "Boy’s Day" and visited the nursing competence center to get to know the profession of nurse. It is an initiative that aims to give young people an insight into the nursing professions that are traditionally dominated by women. Sonja Driver, the head of the living area, emphasizes the importance of such experiences for the development of social skills among children. According to Irena Hammer, a senior animator, men often lack experience in this profession, which may be the reason for their small presence. "I also had no experience in my job at the time and I came across very late," she said.

The students' reactions are consistently positive. Tobias, one of the participants, was enthusiastic: "You can also gossip and play with the old people; the nurses are very nice." These encounters not only promote understanding for the elderly, but may even motivate the young visitors to choose a nursing profession themselves in the future. Resident Elise Moritz added: "The ladies and men are very friendly. It is a job for everyone." Such positive experiences could help increase the attractiveness of the nursing profession.
