Teacher protests in Serbia: Solidarity grows amid salary cuts!
Novi Sad, Serbien - In Serbia it is bubbling: Students and numerous professional groups have launched a Generalstreik This protest was triggered by the tragic collapse of the station advantage in Novi Sad on November 1, 2024, in which 15 people died. The unrestricted students demand transparency about the renovation work, which were carried out in the months before. But the government replied with drastic measures: When paying for February, wages of many protesting teachers were severely shortened.
It's not just a matter of student. Unions of municipal services have already announced that they have temporarily put down their work in order to show solidarity with the teachers and students. Cultural institutions also support the protests - the National Library of Serbia has hired its operation for two days. In addition, lawyers are on strike in Belgrade, Kragujevac and Nis, which should significantly disrupt court work. The opposite side is organized in the form of smaller groups, which are put on counter -blocks under the pretext of political support, as in the case of the head of the top, which has recently appeared in government -friendly media.
