Art up close: Lower Austria open studio days invite you!

On September 24, 2025, the opening event for the “Lower Austria Open Studio Days” took place in the state parliament hall in St. Pölten. This important event will take place on October 18th and 19th, 2025, when over 1,000 artists in more than 245 municipalities in Lower Austria open their studios, galleries, studios and workshops. State Governor Johanna Mikl-Leitner emphasized the essential role of art and culture in society and the ability of artists to show new perspectives. The meeting room was converted into a temporary studio by around 250 visual artists and craftspeople.

Martin Lammerhuber, Managing Director of Kultur.Region.Niederösterreich, emphasized the importance of this initiative, which promotes exchange between artists and those interested. He pointed out that the artists provide insights into their emotional world and invite active participation in the cultural discourse.

Creative encounters throughout Lower Austria

The “NÖ Open Studio Days” are more than an art weekend. They represent an invitation to actively encounter culture and enable visitors to experience art in a variety of forms: see, hear, feel and smell. In addition to regular exhibitions, many studios offer workshops, concerts, readings and programs for children. Entry is free, creating a low-threshold opportunity to experience art without requiring any prior knowledge.

In the rural areas and cities of Lower Austria, artists and audiences meet at eye level, which creates a lively exchange. Each studio offers individual experiences that reflect the creativity and diversity of the country's art scene. It is an important opportunity for those interested in art to talk directly to artists and find out more about their creative processes.

Diversity of art forms

The event encompasses a wide range of artistic expressions, including painting, sculpture, graphics, media art, caricature, fashion design, film, photography, performance, and jewelry and metalsmithing. This diversity not only shows the creative potential of the region, but also the artists' willingness to openly present their work and seek dialogue with the public.
