Worms, a native of Stommeln and an honorary citizen of his hometown, was not only a passionate supporter of the football club, but also an outstanding local politician and State Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs. Dr. Worms had a close relationship with his wife Hildegard for over 60 years, with whom he leaves behind three children and five grandchildren. From 1991 to 1997 he was vice president of 1. FC Köln and during this time he had a decisive influence on the club's structure. Mayor Frank Keppeler praises Worms as a “bridge builder” who always acted empathetically and with Rhenish humor, which helped him to overcome even difficult social challenges. His political career was just as impressive: Worms was active in the CDU early on, was honorary chairman of the senior citizens' union and had a significant influence on the municipal reorganization in North Rhine-Westphalia Rhenish advertising sheets highlighted.
As the initiator of important projects in Pulheim, he is referred to as the “founding father” of his city. For his meritorious work he received numerous awards, including the Federal Cross of Merit and the Order of Merit of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia.
