Grass for climate -neutral universities: fight for a just future!
The Greens and Alternative Students (Grass) have clearly positioned themselves: their goal is to make the universities climate -neutral by 2030. With Sarah Rossmann as the top candidate, they strive for a continuation of their previous projects and vehemently campaign for sustainable changes within the universities. "The climate crisis is not waiting for our degree, so we have to act now," explains Rossmann, who also refers to the Johannes Kepler University Linz as a model. This has set itself the goal of becoming CO2-neutral by 2030, and the grass also expect this commitment from other universities, reports FM4.ORF.AT.
The grass also campaigns for social issues: their catalog of demands includes future-oriented topics such as a free climate for students and the introduction of climate courses to all curricula. The fight against discrimination at universities is also on the agenda. “We want an inclusive and non -discriminatory teaching,” it becomes clear in the election program. Sanctions against discriminatory teachers and the strengthening of gender studies, such as progress in university policy
The grass also call for fundamental changes to ensure accessibility at universities. An unconditional basic scholarship for all students and free access to contraceptives and menstrual articles are essential elements of their program. These measures are particularly important to make access to education easier for young people, emphasizes Rossmann. Urgent need is also to improve the compatibility of study and job, as many students have to continue to fight with presence obligations. "In this regard, too little has changed," the grass top candidate expresses her concerns. The next ÖH election will take place from May 9th to 11th. While the grass still keeps their coalition options open, they have already ruled out to cooperate with the ring of freedom students. Rossmann describes the previous work of the left executive as successful and is optimistic that the successful projects can be continued in order to change the universities sustainably and to advance climate protection.
