Festive carnival: First Great KG Sieglar celebrates 100 years with jubilation!

On January 7, 2025 at 6 p.m., the first Troisdorf ZWAR group (Between Work and Retirement) will be launched in the Sieglar community center “Zur Küz”. All interested parties from Eschmar, Sieglar and Kriegsdorf who were born between 1953 and 1968 are warmly invited. The founding of the group was supported by the city of Troisdorf, the Caritas Association Rhein-Sieg and the Protestant Peace Church Community. Mayor Alexander Biber emphasized that the participants themselves decide which activities will be the focus - from hikes to cultural projects to social evenings. According to Claudia Gabriel from the Caritas Association, ZWAR is an initiative that promotes joy in life and social participation, and particularly invites you to make contact and exchange ideas. The group meetings will take place every two weeks on Tuesdays from January 21, 2025 in the Kreuzkirche, where the rooms will be available free of charge for the first year. More information is available from Claudia Gabriel and Bettina Plugge by email or telephone.

Carnival delights in Sieglar

Another reason to be happy was the 100th anniversary of the first large carnival society in Sieglar, which was ceremoniously acknowledged. Mayor Biber didn't miss his humor when he alluded to the Sieglar residents' strong sense of home by saying: "Every Jeck is different. And Jeck simmer all!" Chairman Marco Esch, who continues the tradition with his father Matthias, was awarded the highest order of merit in carnival gold for his contribution to the carnival. The anniversary will be celebrated in a special session, where the social commitment of the carnival participants was also highlighted. Biber explained that real jokes are important to promote humor and solidarity in a crazy world. The festive evening was rounded off by performances by the Cologne carnival band “Höhner”, which further lightened the mood. These two events impressively show how active life in old age is promoted in Sieglar and cultural traditions are kept alive. The ZWAR group offers older people in particular the opportunity to make new contacts, while the carnival society strengthens community cohesion.
