Wagenknecht fails: Defeat and possible new elections threaten!
The Bundestag election 2025 could have a legal aftermath: The Alliance Sahra Wagenknecht (BSW) narrowly failed due to the five percent hurdle and only achieved 4.972 percent of the vote. On Monday morning it became known that the party was only 13,435 votes to be represented in the Bundestag. This situation leads to a storm of the protests, in which BSW European politician Fabio de Masi has already announced an election contest, as OE24. De Masi criticized alleged "massive irregularities" and titled the election conditions as "Romanian conditions", in relation to the controversial election in Romania, which was reversed in December 2024.
elections and possible new elections
The criticism of the election process for Germans is particularly important, of which, despite 213,000 people listed in the electoral directory, numerous of which were not allowed to vote. De Masi emphasizes that this is in question of equality of the election and not due to the BSW, but the constitution. He also sees a “massive media campaign” against the party that could have influenced the election result. If the Federal Constitutional Court decides that the votes of Germans living abroad were decisive, new elections could take place in the affected electoral circles, such as "https://bsw-vg.de/bundeagenkahlen2025/"> BSW-VG reported .
The BSW's demands are clear: the party is committed to an economic course that demands a strong medium -sized company and social cohesion. Top candidate Sahra Wagenknecht emphasizes that investments in education and retirement provision should have top priority instead of putting funds in ideological projects. While the BSW is preparing for a future comeback, it remains to be seen how the Federal Constitutional Court will react to the contestation.
