Teddy bears as patients: Children discover the hospital in Vienna!

On Tuesday, hundreds of children flocked to the Viennese teddy bear hospital, a special event that is organized by MedUni Vienna together with the Austrian Students' Association (AMSA), the Vienna Medical Association and the Academic Association of Austrian Pharmacists. This “special hospital” opened its doors in the run -up to Christmas to take away the fear of visiting the doctor to little visitors. The hospital is open to the young patients until Thursday, December 5th. In so -called "outpatient clinics", the favorite cuddly toys, dolls or teddies of assistant doctors were examined and "operated", which brings the children closer to dealing with medical situations.

The "Teddy Docs", medical students of the MedUni Vienna, are particularly committed, who look after the children and their "patients". A real hospital environment is simulated here; There is an recording station, an emergency outpatient clinic, a dental clinic and even surgical halls. According to Johannes Steinhart, the president of the chamber for doctors in Vienna, the children are also given the chance to carry out exciting examinations such as EKGS or computer tomographies. The attraction of this action, which takes place once a year, reaches its 21st edition this year. School classes were already registered in the morning, while in the afternoon a spontaneous participation with your own teddy is possible.

interdisciplinary care in pediatrics

The importance of such initiatives is underlined by the commitment of the Pediatric Center of the MedUni Vienna, where interdisciplinary cooperation for the care of complex and chronically ill children and adolescents focuses on. While the teddy bear hospital is prepared in a child -friendly manner, the medical foundation is geared towards highly specialized care. With the motto "Specialist: inside to the child", you actively get involved in the training of future doctors: inside. In 2023, the center published a total of 398 articles and is heading at the top of pediatric research in Europe, as can be seen from MedUni Vienna's report.
