Case full of memories: Italy's story in Wolfsburg alive!

Wolfsburg. An exciting new project called "Suitcase-La Valigia dei Ricordi" saw the light of day! In cooperation with the VfL fan club "Diversity", the Institute for Contemporary History and City Presentation (IZS) and other partners, this suitcase becomes a lively storyteller for seniors and people with dementia with Italian roots. The impact -filled memory box is not only a piece of history, but also an emotional link that tells the old days of the first guest workers and the eventful history of Lupo Martini and VfL!

But that's not all! The VfL memory case, which was introduced for retirement homes a year ago, is now being expanded to include this Italian variant. With exciting memorabilia, such as a VfL jersey and a music CD with the club anthem, the seniors are given the opportunity to bring their memories of unforgettable moments to life. "During our visits to the homes, we found that older people with a migration background are often not taken into account," said Andreas Marks from the VfL fan club diversity. The Italian community in Wolfsburg is large and well integrated - and that is exactly why this special suitcase was launched!

Anita Placenti-Grau, head of the IZS, describes the project as a matter of the heart, linked to the city's history and memory work. "The memory case lives with the emotions," she emphasizes. A tour of the retirement homes from Wolfsburg has already started-accompanied by an Italian music duo to make the visit even more unforgettable! Rocco Artale, an honorary citizen and Italian pioneer in Wolfsburg, hopes that the suitcase will bring joy to the dementia in domestic realms by giving them the opportunity to get in touch with familiar objects.
