Former ISTA chairman Claus Raidl died: great grief for a visionary
The Institute of Science and Technology Austria (ISTA) in Klosterneuburg mourns the loss of his long -time chairman Claus J. Raidl, who died at the age of 82. Raidl, a central figure in the development of the institute since it was founded, leaves a strong legacy of independence and scientific excellence. Martin Hetzer, President of the ISTA, praised Raidl's dynamic commitment and emphasized that the successes of the institute are inextricably linked to himself: "His death is a serious loss for us, and our deep sympathy applies," he said during the grief declarations. Raidl shaped the ISTA not only through its leadership skills, but also with his passion for science.

After Claus Raidl's death, Elisabeth Engelbrechtsmüller-Strauß is now taking over the chair of the ISTA board of trustees. As CEO of Fronius International, she brings rich experience and a clear vision for the future of the institute. In a first statement, she thanked Raidl for his years of commitment and explained that she wanted to further consolidate the commitments and the institute's autonomy. "The ISTA embodies the best that Austrian science has to offer," she emphasized, while describing the ambitions, to double the number of employees by 2036. With 75 research groups and around 1000 employees, the ISTA is willing to accept new challenges and continue to deliver the highest research results, such as iSta.ac.at
Claus Raidl's extensive experience in the private sector and his services in the science community are considered to be the directional for the future development of the ISTA. His motto of 'curious basic research' remains at the center of the Institute activities. The board of trustees, which monitors the development of the ISTA, will continue to work under Engelbrechtsmüller-Strauß 'leadership to preserve and redefine the values and principles that Raidl has established.
