Fight music schools in Wolfsburg: lack of teachers and rising prices!

Wolfsburg. alarm level red at the music schools! The shortage of skilled workers hit the music scene hard. "We cannot currently offer violin lessons because we lack the teachers," complains Peter Gros, head of the "Musik-Atelier Peter and the Wolf" in Vorsfelde. The situation is tense: inflation, lack of performance opportunities for school concerts and unpredictable financial burdens increase the person responsible. "The additional payments to the artist social fund are still unclear," added Gros. At the moment, 110 students are being taught, but new registrations are attached to the silk thread - only if someone canceled can a new student be admitted.

The offer of the music studio is diverse: piano, guitar, trumpet and more. But the prices rise: We have now reached 90 euros of 58 euros for 30 minutes of lessons. "The price development cannot keep up with the inflation rate," emphasizes Gros. The “Harmonie” music school in Vorsfelde also fights with the lack of teachers. Owner Christian Krüger reports: "The high demands make it difficult to find qualified teachers." Currently there are only lessons in the guitar and piano, while cello and violin fall by the wayside. "I take everything as it comes," says Krüger, who keeps his fingers crossed for the students.

Skill shortage is limited to music schools.

The "New Melody" in Fallerleben, on the other hand, has no personnel problems with 12 qualified teachers. "We had to raise the prices two years ago," explains Irina Bittner, the organizational director. A 45-minute course now costs 95 euros. "We are fully booked with 120 students," says Bittner. The music school will soon celebrate its 30th anniversary and has earned an excellent reputation. Despite the challenges of Corona, who relocated lessons to the Internet, the school remained strong and was able to hold all students. "Our first students now bring their own children to us," beams Bittner.
