Autumn beginning in Wilhelmshaven: stormy weather after heating heat!
The meteorological autumn has put a remarkable start in Wilhelmshaven. While the first days of September were characterized by high summer temperatures, the middle of the month brought a drastic drop in temperature that made the transition to autumn really noticeable. The city experienced several summer days in which the temperatures above 25 degrees Celsius climbed and set a record of 20.1 degrees on average for the first ten days - a scenario that has not been observed for eight decades.
The weather situation, which changed during the second week of September, was particularly striking. After a phase of ten dry days, in which the sun seemed and mild temperatures prevailed, there was an abrupt change of weather. Numerous showers moved through the region, and the atmosphere reminded more of April than the beginning of autumn. This change is described particularly dramatically by the sudden change between bright blue sky and threatingly dark clouds.
stormy wind gusts and inconsistent weather
On September 11th, due to a violent hailstorm on federal road 210, a smooth traffic accident occurred, which illustrated the risks of the suddenly changeable weather. The coldest temperatures of the month were measured on September 12, with a maximum of only 10 degrees. In the following days, however, the weather could calm down, and a typical old woman summer moved in who brought pleasantly mild temperatures.
Autumn then gave its way into Wilhelmshaven on time for the calendar beginnings. Autumn announced with dense rain clouds and stormy wind, reinforced by the storm vertebrae "Constanze". The gusts of wind reached full storm strength of nine Beaufort on September 27, while even hurricane -like eleven Beaufort were measured on the East Frisian Islands. These conditions led to an exciting course of the “Sailing Cup” in the region and showed how dynamic the weather can be.
an above -average September
Despite the changeable weather conditions, September 2023 was still too mild with 16.2 degrees on average. The city has been a trend towards above average mild temperatures for 40 months, which will also be noticeable in 2024. Wherever you look, climate change is an issue that concerns people - September was no exception. With 121.5 millimeters of precipitation, the setpoint was significantly exceeded, and the number of days with heavy rain rose to four, which is also well above the long -term average.
Although September was characterized by extreme weather events, the sunshine duration was fulfilled at 174 hours beyond the target, which shows that the sun was not lazy during this time. A total of 798.6 millimeters of precipitation fell at the weather station in Sengwarden by September 30, while only 31.4 millimeters are missing for the fulfillment of the annual full. A balanced weather year? That remains to be seen.
As the weather computers predict, the golden October days could not be so unlikely. It remains to be seen whether the mild temperatures will be revived again, but for Wilhelmshaven, October could still have a few surprises.
