Vienna 2035: Urban development plan relies on the climate, green and quality of life!
With the new urban development plan 2035, also known as a Vienna Plan,Vienna took a pioneering step into the future for a sustainable and worth living in. Mayor Michael Ludwig presented the plan, which serves as a central instrument for the spatial and structural development of the metropolis. This plan determines where the settlements are, which routes will take public transport and how the cycle path network is organized. No new expansion areas should be necessary by 2035, since existing areas such as Rothneusiedl and Seestadt Aspern offer sufficient space for the growing population. As press.wien.gv.at is updated every ten years to keep the dynamic developments step.
a green focus for the future
A central element of the Vienna Plan is the protection and promotion of green spaces, with the aim of maintaining at least 50 % of the city as a green space. This aspect is crucial to meet the urgent need for recreational areas in a growing city. The plan also contains clearly defined key figures for schools, health centers and playgrounds. The Vienna City Council will present the plan in April 2025 for resolution, which means that the city administration creates a solid basis for sustainable development. Planning city councilor Ulli Sima emphasized that the plan summarizes complicated specifications compactly and clearly.
