Traffic chaos in Vienna: Demos bring downtown to a standstill!
in Vienna on Friday, March 7, and Saturday, March 8, numerous traffic impairments are imminent due to demonstrations. Experts from the ÖAMTC warn of delays and possible locks, especially in the city center and in the 9th district. On Friday, the “March for Science” from around 1:45 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. causes disorders in Alser- and Universitätsstraße and around the Votive Church. In the evening, the academic ball, accompanied by a protest demonstration, leads to considerable impairments on the ring from around 6:00 p.m., especially from the opera and in Schotten- und Herrengasse, at the farm and on the Hohen Markt.
On Saturday, two more demos will take place on the "Feminist Fighting Day", which will interfere with traffic from the afternoon and in the evening around Votivkirche, Alser Straße and Spitalgasse as well as on Hernalser Hauptstraße and Ottakringer Straße. In order to make the flow of traffic as smoothly as possible, the ÖAMTC recommends choosing alternative routes, especially along the Danube Canal or via the city highways. It is important to use public transport to avoid the traffic jams caused by these events.
