Fire alarm siren in the Arlberg tunnel: engine damage ensures chaos!
On Monday afternoon, March 18, 2025, callers reported a fire in a saddle vehicle in the Arlberg tunnel around 3:58 p.m. This alarming message reached the rescue and fire brigade control center (RfL), which immediately mobilized numerous emergency services, including the fire brigade, emergency services and police units. The first emergency services were on site in the shortest possible time and checked the situation, such as Vol.at reported.
After an intensive examination, however, it turned out that it was not a fire, but only an engine damage to the affected vehicle. This false alarm still led to the temporary complete blocking of the Arlberg tunnel until shortly after 5:00 p.m. In the meantime, the traffic via the Arlberg Pass was redirected to relieve the affected area. At around 6:45 p.m. the breakdown vehicle was finally towed, and the tunnel was released for all traffic again. Fireworld emphasized that during the incident there are numerous emergency services, including the fire brigades Klösterle, Wald am Arlberg, Dalaas and Braz, as well as several rescue vehicles and police strips, worked quickly and coordinated, which contributed to the rapid restoration of the traffic conditions.
Although the situation could be brought under control quickly and no injuries were to be complained about, the incident shows the importance of a conscientious review of such reports in order to avoid unnecessary missions and traffic disruptions. The rapid reaction of all organizations involved was crucial for the quick restoration of the traffic flow in the Arlbergtunnel.
