Construction work on Dresdner Straße: New stops for Vienna!

From September 2025, tram line 12 will drive through Dresdner Straße in 20th district in Vienna. In order to cope with the expected increase in pedestrians, the construction work to extend the Innstrasse, Traisengasse, Hellwagstrasse and Höchstädplatz stop as early as March 7, 2025. The work takes place in three construction phases and should be completed by the end of June 2025.

The first construction phase affects the section between Innstraße and Gasteigergasse, whereby the road is closed here from March 7 to April 18, 2025. Motorized traffic is redirected and the tram stop towards 19th district is temporarily laid. In the second construction phase, which is expected to continue from April 28th to completion, the section between Hellwagstraße and Stromstrasse will also be affected, with further diversions for traffic.

Dresdner Straße and your subway station

Dresdner Straße is not only an important traffic artery, but also home to the subway station of the same name, which belongs to the U6 line. This underground station was opened on May 4, 1996 and is an important access point for the residents. The stop is barrier -free and is located in the underground location directly under Hellwagstrasse. It enables revs to tram line 2 as well as to bus lines 5a and 37a, which significantly improves the accessibility of the environment, such as de.wikipedia.org . The city center and other important destinations are therefore well connected.

Due to the construction work on the tram extension and the subway station, traffic in the area will noticeably change. The city administration points out that further information about the progress of the construction work and traffic measures can be found on their website, as reported on wien.gv.at
