Two large demos in Vienna: commemorate and solidarity on Saturday!

On Saturday, June 5, 2025, two major demonstrations will take place in Vienna, which will provide traffic disabilities. The first event is intended by the victim of the genocide in Srebrenica. This demo begins at around 4:30 p.m. and leads from Mariahilfer Straße via Babenbergerstrasse and the ring to Maria-Theresien-Platz. The demonstration blocks the two -line line between the grain market and Burggasse as well as the ring from the opera and Schwarzenbergplatz. In addition, traffic jams on the ring and Lorraine Straße from Schwarzenbergplatz as well as on Friedrichstrasse and the left Wienzeile can be expected, as reported.

A second demonstration also takes place and sets a sign of support for the Palestinian people. This demo starts at Yppenplatz and leads over the Schellhammergasse and the outer belt to Urban-Loritz-Platz. Here, too, there are delays on the outer Hernals belt from Jörgerstrasse. Visitors are advised to use public transport to facilitate the traffic situation.

mass demonstrations in Serbia

explained.

In the past few days, hundreds of students walked 80 kilometers from Belgrade to Novi Sad. On Friday, numerous cyclists followed the protest movement, and participants even traveled by buses from different parts of Serbia. Some came from Austria with cars. On Saturday afternoon, many citizens gathered in Novi Sad, who occupied the bridges from 3 p.m. and thus set a sign of their demands for transparency and a functioning rule of law.

EU and the protest movement

Despite massive protests, European support for the demonstrators failed to materialize. EU flags could not be seen in the protests, which indicates the lost trust in the EU. Observers note that the EU has had the Serbian government under Vučić uncritically in recent years, although Serbia is considered an EU candidate. The connection between the EU and Serbia is particularly relevant because the country has large lithium deposits that are important for future economic development. In July 2024, the EU and the Serbian government signed an agreement on raw material mining, which receives the pressure on the government and the protest movement, as reports.

The protests run peacefully, despite attempted intimidation by the government. The demonstrators get involved in their concerns and clear the trash after the events to convey a positive picture of their movement.
