Two demos in Vienna: Transport chaos on June 6th threaten!

On Saturday, June 6, 2025, the streets of Vienna are in the sign of two important demonstrations that will lead to significant traffic disruptions. These demos, which start in the city center from around 4:30 p.m., have both an emotional and political concern. The first event is a commemoration of the victims of the genocide in Srebrenica. The second demo focuses on solidarity with the Palestinian people.

The memorial demonstration for Srebrenica is expected to continue until 6:00 p.m. and begins at Christian-Broda-Platz. With around 3,000 participants: a large crowd can be expected inside. The route leads via Mariahilfer Straße, Babenbergerstraße, past the ring to Maria-Theresien-Platz. At the same time, the demo for the Palestinian people, which starts at Yppenplatz, is expected with around 300 participants: along the inside and leads along Schellhammergasse via the outer belt to the Urban-Loritz-Platz, where it ends at 5:00 p.m. Traffic measures are included in both cases, temporary blocks and traffic dissipation in the demonstration area as well as adjacent roads, as reported.

traffic disruptions throughout the city

The announced demos will significantly impair the traffic situation in Vienna. The two -line line is blocked between the grain market and Burggasse, and the ring will be impassable from the opera or Schwarzenbergplatz. This leads to traffic jams on the ring, Lorraine Straße, Friedrichstrasse and the left Wienzeile. In addition, delays are expected on the outer Hernals belt from Jörgerstrasse, as vienna.at reported.

In order to prevent the problems in road traffic, the ÖAMTC recommends using the subways or avoiding them in a large scale. It is also expected that the demos will lead to further traffic jams in the city center and in the 9th district on Saturday, especially from the afternoon. Last week there were already traffic disruptions due to other demonstrations, including the "March for Science" on Friday, which resulted in additional traffic jams on Alserstrasse and University Straße. An also announced demo against the academic ball led to impairments, such as oe24.at.

The current demos are part of a series of events that are planned for the "feminist fight day". These will result in further traffic disruptions in the afternoon and evening hours in the vicinity of the Votivkirche and along Alser Straße. Drivers should prepare for an extremely difficult traffic situation and prefer public transport.
