Wienwoche 2025: Art against Imperialism - Breasts for Society!

Laimgrubengasse 10, 1060 Wien, Österreich - From September 12th to 21st, 2025, the fourteenth edition of the Wienwoche festival, which is entitled "Breathe Again". The festival aims to point out the consequences of today's imperialism through artistic and activist measures, which gives many people the feeling that they no longer have air to breathe. The event is used as a platform for discussions and the presentation of art projects that deal with colonial and imperialist structures. An “Open Call” creative initiatives were collected in advance, from which a jury selected a shortlist of the implementable projects, such as ots.at reported.

The artistic direction of the festival lies in the hands of jelena micić and Araba Evelyn Johnston-Arthur who have experience in the areas of anti-imperialism and anti-colonialism. They emphasize the importance of building international friendships and socio-ecological struggles to make the world more fairly. A central concern is to identify the mechanisms of imperialism and find ways to act against the social and economic injustices that it causes. This also affects the critical examination of the history of Austria and its colonial complications, which are often neglected in public perception, as Johnston-Arthur explains.
