Olympic champion Valentin Bontus surprises at Trofeo in Mallorca!
Palma de Mallorca, Spanien - Valentin Bontus, the Olympic champion in the Formula Kite, has been at the Trofeo Princesa Sofia in Palma de mallorca Secured second place. With this placement, Bontus qualified for the grand finale and achieved a top four rank at the first Grand Slam event of the year. Heavy conditions, including a doldrum several hours, represented a challenge, but Bontus took advantage of his opportunity through direct qualification that saved him the quarter and semi-final rounds.
The Trofeo Princesa Sofia took place from April 3 to 8, 2023 and recorded a record participation with 976 teams and 1259 sailors from 66 countries. Maximilian Maeder from Singapore dominated the Men’s Formula Kite class and secured the goldplace with eight victories. Bontus' achievements were brought into focus at this top -class event, which met with great interest in both athletes and spectators.

The Nacra 17 competitions are currently fourth in Laura Farese and Matthäus Zöchling, while Lukas Haberl and Clara Stäminger grouped themselves down to eleventh place. In the 49 duo, Keanu Prettner and Jakob Flachberger have to be satisfied with twelfth place.

future challenges and Olympic Games
The regatta is not only an important event in sailing, but also an important preparation for the 2024 Olympics in Paris. These games are held from 28th to August 8, 2024 in the Marina de Marseille, where 65 nations are struggled with a total of 330 athletes in various boat classes. New forms of competition and changes in the classes, such as the introduction of Formula Kite for both genders, make the Olympics particularly exciting.
The sailing competitions in Marseille will include 10 regattas, including 4 for men, 4 for women and 2 mixed regattas that will replace the traditional 470 Jolle regattas. With a total of 350 quota places for the competitions, the event is both a challenge and an opportunity for athletes to prove themselves on the international stage.
