In Barnstorf, the highly expected light trip will take place again next Saturday, December 7th, the festively decorated pick-ups and trucks will move through the streets. This event combines Christmas joy with a pronounced environmental awareness, since the Barnstorf support community compensates for the CO₂ emissions of the event. The 6.3 kilometer tour starts at 5 p.m. and is accompanied by two to three festively decorated "American Police Cars". The organizers invite all spectators to admire the festive vehicles on the edge of the route. The trucks will stop at several stations, including the Hülsmeyer-Park and the curve at the Volksbank before the column fits the grand finale in the town center. The compensation of CO₂ emissions is a central concern of the organizers and is carried out by a climate protection certificate that supports progress in climate protection projects. Rouven Barmbold explained that the entire light trip can expect an estimated 500 kilograms of CO₂ emissions, with even double, i.e. a ton of CO₂, compensating. This should not only raise awareness of the ecological footprint of the event, but also help to support social projects. Last year, almost 3000 euros were collected by the light trip, the participating social institutions and families benefit in need, a tradition that is to be continued this year.
