Cultural highlight 2025: Via Iulia Augusta celebrates with sightings!

Kötschach-Mauthen, Österreich - The opening of Via Iulia Augusta Kultur summer took place on July 11, 2025 in the Landhaus Sonnleitner. Under the motto "sightings", the event served as a platform to deal with important historical topics. The opening ceremony started with a special concert under the title "Together - Insieme - Skupno", which took place in the Mauthen church due to the weather.

Governor Peter Kaiser opened the event and emphasized the importance of 2025, which marked several important anniversaries. These are the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II, the 70-year signing of the state contract and the 30-year EU membership of Austria. The aim of the cultural summer is to overcome separating and promote cross -border regions.

This year's program comprises a total of 14 events that take place from July 11 to September 14, 2025 in the municipalities of Kötschach-Mauthen, Dellach in the Gailtal and Oberdrauburg. A later highlight of the cultural summer is a planned excursion to the European Capital of Culture Nova Goricia and a visit to a concert at Carinthian Summer.

The mayors of Mauthen, Franz Zoppoth, and the program manager Helga Pöchheim welcomed the guests and presented the comprehensive offer, which includes concerts, documentaries and a music theater production for children. A special focus of the program is on the topic of "remembering", which Antonia Gössinger addressed in detail in her lecture on displacement and memory in connection with the Second World War.

The Via Iulia Kultursommer has been organized in these communities for 14 years and offers a valuable platform for cultural exchange and reflection on common history.

Current cultural events in Austria, which also take place this summer, include the summer games in Landskron and Eberndorf as well as the musical "Les Miserables" in Hartberg. These events show the variety of cultural landscape, which can be found throughout the region and at the same time strengthens the cultural identity of people.
