Fight against drug crime: Police strikes back in Wiener Neustadt!
In the past few months in Lower Austria, there have been intensive police controls that aim to fight drug crime in particular. Around 2,500 people have been checked since March, with 150 ads being filed - among them against 61 minors. Interior Minister Gerhard Karner (ÖVP) sees the measures as success because the special operational groups can take action directly against criminal young people. According to the Karner, waking rooms have never arrested criminals, which is the responsibility of the police who consistently act against drug trafficking and street crime. In Wiener Neustadt there have been 31 focus campaigns since the controls, which extended not only to the train station, but also to public spaces such as the city park and the Esperantopark. A positive indicator of the success of the measures is the decline in the pronounced bans, which have halved since 2021, as Dieter CSEFAN, the head of the operations group, explained. About 20,000 people commute to Wiener Neustadt every day, which presents the security situation with special challenges, emphasized Mayor Klaus Schneeberger (ÖVP).new impulses through literature event
In addition to the security measures, attention is also drawn to cultural events. On March 22, 2017, local authors will present their new novel, which plays in a sleepy English village. "A trace too much" is an exciting thriller that is reminiscent of Agatha Christie's works. Chief inspector John W. Smith, lovingly called "Dabbl-Ju", faces an enigmatic crime in which two women were murdered and he suspects a possible connection. The reading takes place at 7 p.m. in the Wiener Neustadt city library, admission is free. Such cultural events contribute to the liveliness of the city and offer citizens an appealing opportunity for leisure activities.
