Memorial event in Mariahilf: Remember the future on December 7th

Mollardgasse 8, 1060 Wien, Österreich - Vienna, Mariahilf - on December 7, 2024, at 3:00 p.m., there is a significant commemoration in the Mariahilf district museum, which is part of the “Remembering for the Future” project. One of the program items is the exhibition "Persecuted as homosexual in Mariahilf", which is presented by historian Andreas Brunner. This exhibition illuminates the cruel fate of people who were pursued and murdered during the Nazi era due to their sexual orientation. Admission to the event is free, which underlines the importance of the culture of remembrance, such as wien.gv.at reports.

From 6:00 p.m. there is another event that deals with the children's transports to England during the Holocaust. The Polish-Armenian-Austrian Cultural Association (Polarmaust) presents the “Children's Movement” program. Readings from autobiographical texts, film clips and musical performances are offered. These transports saved around 10,000 Jewish children from safe death in 1938 and 1939 and were financed by private funds. Registration via events@polarmaust.org is required.

visions for the future

In another important project, the students of the St. Marien elementary school developed creative ideas on the future of the 6th district. As part of the “Mariahilf 2044” writing competition, visionary concepts were presented that range from green houses to social projects for homeless people. District head Markus Rumelhart (SPÖ) received their utopian ideas from the fourth graders, which not only included playgrounds in high -lying tree tops, but also an ice rink with a Christmas market at the Vienna River and gondola connections between playgrounds. These ideas were recorded in a graphically and textually designed book, which the students developed during regular workshops, such as

The encouragement of the children to think creatively shows that their ideas are not so far from reality, Rumelhart, who plans to incorporate some of these suggestions into future development projects.
