Mayor Ludwig: Security as the key to the Vienna City Marathon!
Wien, Österreich - On April 5, 2025, Mayor Michael Ludwig, Interior Minister Gerhard Karner and police chief Gerhard Pürstl visited the construction work and security measures for the 42nd Vienna City Marathon. Ludwig emphasized the great importance of security at this major event. Together with the Vienna State Police Directorate and the organizers, a comprehensive security concept was developed to make the marathon a safe and unforgettable experience for everyone involved.
There are numerous emergency services on site to ensure security. For example, 38 vehicles and 70 emergency services are available to the Vienna professional rescue. The Red Cross sends 265 paramedics and 11 emergency doctors. The Vienna professional fire brigade is also present with a vehicle and five emergency services, while the MA 48 with around 170 employees and 55 vehicles ensures the maintenance of the running route and the start/target area. In addition, around 110 employees of the Viennese lines support the smooth running of the event, while over 480 law enforcement officers along the route and in the target area ensure security.
operational concept and security management
The close cooperation of all Viennese emergency organizations is particularly emphasized by Ludwig. Event security managers in particular play a central role in the planning, implementation and monitoring of event security. Their main tasks include recognizing potential dangers, the creation of security plans and the implementation of risk analyzes and emergency plans.
A clear communication and coordination strategy is essential to be able to react quickly to unforeseen events. In addition, the development of a security concept requires careful analysis of the local conditions and risks. The use of modern monitoring technologies such as cameras and alarm systems also contributes to improving security.
Development of emergency plans
Extensive emergency management is crucial to be prepared for unexpected situations. Regular exercises and simulations help to check the emergency plans. Security briefings for employees and access controls are further measures to counteract potential threats.
Overall, it can be seen that detailed security planning and surveillance for the success of major events are essential. With the help of a well -trained and coordinated team, the Vienna City Marathon does everything possible to create a safe environment in which both participants and spectators can enjoy the event to the fullest.
