Buchenweihnacht inspires despite frost: a festival of warmth and joy!

Eichstätt, Deutschland - On the third Sunday of Advent, December 17, 2024, the fourth beech Christmas took place in Pondorf, despite the frosty temperatures and occasional snow. The Buchengarten support group invited visitors who gradually filled the site. The chairwoman Eva Avril and her team were satisfied with the number of visitors, while fire bowls and stoves caused warmth. Backing bread over the open fire as well as mulled wine, punch and grilled sausages were particularly popular. The event also offered Christmas stories for the children, who listened enthusiastically to the little Christmas, and the appearance of the Altmühltaler Bergdeifl’n, which not only brought St. Nicholas, but also provided spectacular entertainment, such as Donaukurier reported.

magnificent customs in action

The Altmühltaler Bergdeifl’n, which have arisen from a group of like -minded people, also present their fascinating masks and traditions this year. The association was founded in 2021 and has set itself the goal of making customs known in the Altmühltal. Josef Wagner, a passionate mask carver, has followed the customs since childhood and created many masks that are proudly presented in the club. Especially the Perchten, Krampuses and witches attract attention and have certainly contributed to the mood of the event, as can be read on their Association.

The combination of a festive atmosphere and traditional representation was celebrated on Sunday afternoon when the children in Buchentipi happily stayed with the story of the little Christmas. The performance of the Perchten, who mingled with the audience and provided entertainment with their acting skills, was a highlight. The event ended after three hours with exuberant faces and decorated donkeys that started their way home together with the visitors.
