Shock for cycling star: Evenepoel after crash in the hospital!
Oetingen, Belgien - A dramatic accident has recorded the Belgian cycling professional Remco Evenepoel in the province of Flemish-Brabant. The 24-year-old collided in the small town of Oetingen with a postbus from "BPost". According to the first reports, Evenepoel was no longer able to dodge the open swinging door of the vehicle in good time. His father told Het Nieuwsblad that the cyclist was brought to the Erasmus Hospital in Anderlecht, but had already sent a message, which gives hope for a quick recovery.
Evenepoel complains about pain in the shoulder and hand, confirmed his team boss Patrick Lefevere on Sporza. "Better to bike than the arm," said Lefevere, and emphasized that such accidents unfortunately occur frequently, since many road users are not attentive. Photos from the scene of the accident show that the upper tube of Evenepoel's gold -colored racing bike is broken in the impact. However, the exact circumstances of the accident still have to be clarified.
Return to the race
The three-time world champion only visited the Formula 1 Grand Prix in Qatar last weekend before returning to his training. Despite the accident, Evenepoel plans to get back into racing in early February. His family is already in the hospital with him, which alleviates concern for his health. The incident throws a light on the safety problem for cyclists in road traffic, which according to Lefevere ends several times every day, especially by careless drivers.
