A ambulance crashes in shelter from Straße - two paramedics injured!

on the night of Tuesday, April 15, 2025, a serious accident occurred in the shelter with an ambulance. The incident happened around 1:45 a.m. on St. Wolfganger-Straße when the emergency vehicle was on the way towards St. Wolfgang. The 23-year-old driver and the 22-year-old paramedic, both from the Murtal district, were injured in the accident when the vehicle came off the road on street kilometers 6.2 and slipped about 50 meters above a steep slope before it came to a standstill in the Granitzenbach bed. Fortunately, at the time of the accident, there was no patient in the vehicle, which is a small relief for the emergency services involved.

The driver was transported to the LKH Judenburg with the rescue helicopter C14 with an indefinite injuries, while the paramedic was also taken to the hospital. The recovery of the badly damaged vehicle was carried out by a towing service. No figures have so far been published about the exact property damage.

emergency trips under observation

accidents with emergency vehicles are not uncommon despite strict safety precautions. A comprehensive analysis of the performance level in the emergency services in Germany, which is carried out every four years, shows that a total of around 16.1 million emergency trips took place in the period 2020/2021, in which numerous unforeseen events can occur. According to the Federal Institute for Roads, over twice as many missions were carried out in urban areas compared to rural regions. The emergency rate was 97.3 missions per year and 1,000 inhabitants, which indicates an increase of almost 11 percent.

In the recent past, there have also been serious accidents with emergency vehicles in other parts of Germany. On September 30, 2023, a Berlin ambulance crashed at a crossroads in Marzahn when he drove into the intersection at red. In this incident, five people were injured, including an 83-year-old who later died in the hospital.

The results of such accidents show how critical and dangerous the missions for emergency services can be. While the rescue workers often have to act quickly in emergency situations, the road conditions and the traffic behavior of other drivers are often unpredictable.

The Federal Institute for Roads Reservations recognize the importance of continuous analysis of emergency trips as essential in order to further optimize the security in the emergency services and to raise public awareness of the challenges of the helper in need. Against this background, the next analysis in 2024/25 will certainly be of great interest.
