Waffenruhe in Manbij: Kurds and Pro-Turkish troops agree!

In northeastern Syria, a ceasefire between Kurds and pro-Turkish fighters was achieved. The leader of Syria's democratic forces (SDF), Mazloum Abdi, announced that this agreement was concluded through US mediation. The fighters of the Military Council Manbij, who are associated with the SDF, should withdraw from the competitive region as soon as possible. 218 fighters were killed in the past battles that took place between the military council and the troops supported by Turkey. This happened after the pro-Turkish militias had taken control of the city of Tal Rifaat and the surrounding villages, as OE24 reported.

turning point in Damascus

On Sunday an important turn occurred when the Islamist group Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) and its allies took the Syrian capital Damascus, which led to the fall of the President Bashar al-Assad that has prevailed since 2000. Abu Muhammad Al-Jaulani, the HTS leader, celebrated this victory as a triumph for the entire Islamic nation and announced his victory speech in the historic Umayaden mosque in Damascus, one of the oldest religious places in the world. Experts now discuss what role religious affiliation could play under a possible rule of the HTS in the future of Syria, such as Kurier reported.

The Kurds that control an autonomous region in northeastern Syria see a possibility of participation in the fall of Assad's regime. There is speculation that cooperation between HTS and the Kurds is possible, especially since HTS is currently not strong enough to take over the Kurdish area. At the same time, pro-Turkish groups intensified their attacks on Kurdish positions while they benefit from Assad's fall. Meanwhile, various religious and ethnic communities in Syria are concerned about future development, since they may have to be afraid of oppression under a Sunni -dominated regime.
