Gas consumption in Vorarlberg: Why the lines have to stay!
In a drastic decision, the E-Control energy authority asked the network operators to shut down parts of the gas network in Vorarlberg. This is done in view of a progressive decline in customers and increasing costs. The comprehensive gas network, which extends over 2,200 kilometers, is now under pressure, since according to Tobias Haring, managing director of Vorarlberg Netz, more and more households switch to renewable energy sources. Variable inquiries, such as warmer winter and economic uncertainties, also contribute to the sunken gas consumption. Nevertheless, Haring assured that severe decommissioning will not be an issue for the foreseeable future, so vorarlberg.orf.at .
The gas heating remains the dominant heating form in Austria, as reported selectra.at . It is not only widespread, but is also considered the most economical heating form. Gas heaters use flammable gases, typically natural gas, for heat generation and have established themselves as a proven technology for generations. A gas condensing device is the modern variant that also uses heat from the exhaust gases. With continuous access to the gas network, households can benefit from the simple structured energy supply without having to create additional storage rooms.
Despite the advantages, such as low costs and technological maturity, there are also challenges. Annual maintenance is essential to ensure security, since there are concerns about exhaust gas exhausts in urban areas. The dependence on a stable infrastructure and the price changes in the energy market also represent decisive factors for the future of gas heating.Details | |
