Drone speed on the slopes: Skistar escapes spectacular crash!
A spectacular incident caused excitement at the World Cup giant slalom in Adelboden: a camera roar that was supposed to ensure impressive recordings, crashed into the race through the German ski racer Jonas Stockinger. This had just happened half of the goals when the drone on the Chuenis Bärgli fell from the sky and landed in the snow. Fortunately, it turned out that there was never a danger to Stockinger or other people, as the Swiss news agency SRF confirmed. The 25-year-old Niederbayer noticed the crash during his run, but looked at the competition later and had to laugh about it. "I saw it and just had to laugh," said Stockinger afterwards. However, the competition was a success for him because after many challenges he ended up in 18th place, his best result in the World Cup.
a dangerous risk of ski races
But this incident is not the first of its kind. Already on Saturday a drone crashed a drone at the Super-G in St. Anton behind the Austrian skier Nina Ortlieb. Such incidents are not only embarrassing, but also recover serious risks. In 2015, a similar incident occurred in Italy when a drone fell on the slopes during a slalom, immediately after Skistar Marcel Hirscher drove past. At that time, Hirscher expressed his anger: "You shouldn't think about what can happen. Whoever is responsible for it: please fit," says the Austrian athlete. These incidents also highlight the potential dangers that modern technology can bring with it due to a lack of safety precautions in sporting events. According to the statements of race director Markus Waldner, such situations are intolerable and it has to be traded to avoid future accidents.
Overall, the question of security around skiing and the use of drones in the racing environment remains. In this special case, however, Stockinger got away with a horror and was ultimately able to smile about the situation while the ski season continues with further competitions.
