Unrest in Formula 1: Strict punishments for drivers are imminent!
In Formula 1 it is bubbling hard! On Wednesday, February 26, 2025, two FIA employees were excluded from a meeting of the motorsport world council because they refused to sign a confidentiality agreement. This agreement is intended to prevent information from reaching the public. As the Krone , there are strict guidelines for maintaining confidential information that relates to the proper management of motorsport. These developments seem to be alarming for transparency within the organization.
new penalties for drivers
At the same time, the FIA drastically tightened its punishment guidelines for Formula 1 drivers. From this season, violations of the updated sports code as well as disrespectful or insulting statements will be made with four times the fine. According to Auto Motor und Sport , drivers now have to pay 40,000 euros at their first violation, which can quickly increase to horrendous 120,000 euros for further violations. In addition, there are even racing locks and deductions at championship points. These new measures aim to protect the reputation of the FIA and to suppress public criticism that harms the organization.
The question remains, like the drivers, who have viewed the handling of the FIA critically in the past, will react to these sharper measures. Prominent voices such as Max Verstappen and George Russell have already publicly protested the decisions of the FIA. In view of the recent unrest around President Mohammed bin Sulayem, it is to be seen whether the drivers will raise their voices this time or to join the muzzle.
