SD era ends: ORF switches to HD quality-what you need to know!
The Austrian radio (ORF) takes a significant step: From January 7, 2025, the radiation of its programs ORF 1, ORF 2 and ORF III will be finally stopped in standard quality (SD). As 5min.at , many households have already switched to the high-resolution HD quality. The ORF continuously warns on its existing SD channels with large screens that the changeover takes place. Older spectators in particular are already complaining that they can almost no longer use the programs because they do not have the technology to receive in HD.
HD change made easy
Affected viewers can simply carry out the "logo check" to determine whether they already receive the transmitters in HD. If the HD sign is displayed next to the ORF broadcaster logo, everything is fine. If this is not the case, the audience must work. The ORF has provided simple instructions that in most cases contain a search for a transmitter on the TV. In addition, customers who need help can use the free ORF hotline at +43 800 700 123 that can be reached on weekdays, or you can write to the e-mail address hd@orf.at, like
The “ORF Sport Plus” saving transmitter has been running only in HD since December of the previous year. The gradual changeover of the ORF to pure HD program radiation aims to improve television experiences with contemporary image quality. More than half of Austrian households are already receiving in HD, only a few older community facilities or head stations still have to be updated to make the changeover smoothly.
