Triumph young wolves: U19 to the Cup quarter-finals, U17 wins away!
Last weekend, the young teams of VfL Wolfsburg achieved remarkable success. Both the U19 and the U17 showed impressive achievements on the field and thus strengthened their place in the youth football scene. First of all, the U19 in the DFB Cup made it to achieve the better end in the exciting round of round of 16 against Eintracht Frankfurt.
The game in the AOK stadium was a real nerve game that was only decided in penalty shootout. After a turbulent course of the game that led to a 3: 3 (3: 3, 3: 3, 1: 1) in the regular playing time and the extension, the players of the wolves had to take their nerves together. In the preliminary round, the Wolfsburgers had already stumbled against VfB Stuttgart, but again they were able to assert themselves. But shortly before half -time, Pharell Hensel was able to equalize what gave the wolves new drive. The second half also started promising when Jonathan Akaegbobi put the wolves in the lead in the 51st minute. But the Frankfurter showed great fighting spirit and were able to score a further two goals, which finally led to an extension.
The U19 now has 14 days to recover from this intensive game before the next league game against Holstein Kiel is due on October 19. The quarter-finals in the DFB Cup are already in the house, the draw of which will take place in the near future. The decisive games will take place on November 9th and 10th.
Daniel Brauer, coach of the U19, expressed his satisfaction about the performance of his players: "Both teams had to go to their limit today. Although I would have liked a clearer victory, the game was an excellent opportunity for our players to develop."
At the same time, the B-Juniors of VfL Wolfsburg were able to continue their series and celebrated with a 4-2 win against Chemnitz FC, which is located at the bottom of the table. After a relaxed first leg, which ended 5-1, VfL was also superior in the second leg. The first goal fell through Carl-Anton Stacherling in the 17th minute, but the Chemnitzer immediately answered and only scored the equalization three minutes later.
The substitute Maurice Karp then turned the game within two minutes with two goals in the 49th and 51st minute. The wolves did not let the Chemnitzer's interim goal to get out of the socket and set the end of a successful away game with another goal by Elisee Blessing (86.)
coach Dennis da Silva Felix was satisfied with the performance of his B-juniors: "We could have used some of the chances better, but overall it was a well-deserved victory." He also looks forward to the upcoming games with expectations, especially the next away game against Erzgebirge Aue. The wolves are ready to further expand the unbeaten series.
