Panasonic closes work in Austria: 25 years of production end!

Vienna, Österreich - An important cut for industry: Panasonic is planning to close his work in Enns by the end of December 2025. This was informed of the employees last Thursday, as reported by the "Upper Austrian News". Production in the only European location for Panasonic circuit boards should continue until closure. The work that was taken over 25 years ago is sold after the production stop. The company has announced that they are looking for socially acceptable solutions for the employees in cooperation with the works council, but the decline in the European market share for this type of production from 20 percent to just two percent has been accusing the future of the industry in the past two decades.

A similar story tells the closure of the General Motors plant in Antwerp, which was carried out in 2010 after the company manufactured 13:306.292 vehicles. This production facility, which opened in 1924, was a key location for the automotive giant over the years. From the beginning, the work was an important center for the assembly of Opel and Vauxhall vehicles and provided millions of models that operated the European market. Ultimately, however, a decline in the demand and strategic new directions of the company management brought the end. Despite intensive efforts to find external investors, the closure could not be averted, and in December 2010 the last model rolled off the assembly line, a black Opel Astra Gtc.

industrial manager decline

Both closures illustrate the dramatic change in European industry. Panasonic has adapted to the falling market, while General Motors had to resign after decades as an important player on the continental European market. These developments not only bring with them economic, but also social challenges, since numerous jobs are at stake. The decline in production is undeniable and makes it clear how endangered even flourishing industries are. The European automotive market and electronics production faces serious challenges that question their future.
