Help urgently wanted: 23 children are waiting for support in the learning café!

The Caritas of the Diocese of St. Pölten urgently calls on voluntary support for their learning cafes. The need is growing in the region, especially in Wolkersdorf, where 23 children are currently waiting for a place in the care. 21 children are already supervised on site, and those responsible see the need to win at least five to eight additional helpers. A total of around 30 volunteers are sought nationwide. At the moment, 90 volunteers are already active in the Lower Austrian learning cafes, where 189 children are looked after and additional 117 more are on the waiting list. This reported the church aid organization and referred to the increasing pressure in the facilities.

What do the learning cafes offer?

The learning cafes of the Caritas St. Pölten not only offer tutoring, but also a variety of leisure activities and social programs in order not only to offer children academic support, but also a healthy snack. "We would like to create a room where everyone can feel good and children can make progress in school," said Marguerite-Camille Hochwarter, team leader of the learning café in Wolkersdorf. The learning cafes aim to support students until the compulsory school leaving certificate, to promote their motivation to learn and to strengthen their sense of community. The offers include support in homework, creative workshops and parent discussions.

The Caritas St. Pölten invites anyone who regularly and desire to work with children to take action in the team. Pedagogical training is not necessary, which makes participation easier for many.
