Judgment in Rostock: Aida Cruises must pay vacationers!

Rostock, Deutschland - A shocking judgment shakes the cruise industry! The Rostock district court sentenced AIDA Cruises to pay compensation to a cheated couple who had to cancel two trips. The judges decided on October 18 that customers have to be compensated for their lost holiday joys. A judgment that could have far -reaching consequences for the entire industry!

In detail: The couple had originally booked a fantastic two -week cruise in the Indian Ocean from March 7th to 21st, 2023. But Aida Cruises canceled the trip on June 14, 2022 due to official requirements and reimbursed the travel price. The travelers then dared a second attempt and booked another cruise for the period from February 27 to March 12, 2024. But this trip was also canceled, this time due to security concerns in the Red Sea, where Houthi rebels were a threat. Again there was the money back, but the couple wanted more - they demanded compensation!

court speaks compensation for

The court found that the first cancellation was early, but the second cancellation was a different story! For the first trip, the court only awarded 10 percent of the travel price as compensation. In the second cancellation, however, the court decided to have a whopping 50 percent! The judges argued that the trip should not take place in the endangered Red Sea, but in a safe part of the Indian ocean. AIDA Cruises had canceled the trip for entrepreneurial reasons so as not to endanger another planned trip in the Mediterranean. A clear case of an entrepreneurial decision that the travelers do not have to accept!

AIDA Cruises has already appealed and argues that the cancellation in connection with the security situation in the Red Sea is. The industry will follow the developments closely, because if the judgment remains in higher instances, this could trigger a wave of other complaints. AIDA Cruises faces a decisive challenge!
