Tourism in Schleswig-Holstein: Changing challenges for 2024!

Büsum, Deutschland - The tourism industry in Schleswig-Holstein is on the crossroads! With an impressive gross turnover of around 10.4 billion euros and around 169,000 employees, it is a central economic factor for the region. But the mood is tense: cost pressure, shortage of skilled workers and bureaucratic hurdles are increasing to the industry, as the Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IHK) Schleswig-Holstein reported on the tourism day in Büsum (Dithmarschen district).

"The tourism companies in Schleswig-Holstein are characterized by high flexibility and creativity," emphasized Sedef Atasoy from the IHK. Despite stable demand, there are mixed feelings about the future. Many providers manage to offer visitors a unique experience that they always attract. But only through close cooperation of all actors can the industry continue to contribute to the positive development of the region.

challenges for the industry

Hans-Jürgen Lütje, chairman of the tourism association, warned of the low dynamics in demand. "In order to ensure competitiveness sustainably, the tourism industry needs reliable perspectives and suitable framework conditions," says Lütje. This includes affordable living space, a balanced price-performance ratio and the extraction as well as binding qualified employees. The challenges are enormous and the industry urgently has to adapt so as not to fall behind.
