Thuringia: Almost all universities rely on a new semester ticket!
In Thuringia, a new 29-euro ticket for students will be offered in Thuringia from the coming semester, which facilitates access to public transport. According to the Mittelthüringen transport association (VMT), all universities in the state have been given the opportunity to take part in this offer. The decision to introduce the ticket was made by several institutions, including the University of Erfurt and the Friedrich Schiller University Jena.
The 29-euro ticket is implemented in cooperation with a total of six transport companies and the student union. Around 50,000 students who are enrolled in more than 400 different courses in Thuringia benefit from this initiative. Although the majority of universities agreed, there were also some, such as the Schmalkalden University of Applied Sciences and the Gera-Eisenach University of Applied Sciences, which voted against the introduction of the ticket. They feared that the existing semester ticket would be more expensive due to the new regulations.
participating universities
The universities that have decided to participate in the new ticket are:
- University of Erfurt
- University of Applied Sciences Erfurt
- tu ilmenau
- Friedrich-Schiller-Universität Jena
- Ernst Abbe University Jena
- Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences
- Bauhaus University Weimar
- University of Music Franz Liszt Weimar
The introduction of the 29-euro ticket is particularly important because students in Thuringia are often dependent on public transport in order to get to their teaching locations. It enables users to use all regional means of transport, but it should be noted that long -distance trains may not be used as part of this semester ticket. An exception is the IC connection from Erfurt via Weimar and Jena to Gera, which can also be used with the Germany semester ticket.
With this initiative, students in Thuringia receive an inexpensive option to improve their mobility during their studies. The price of 29 euros is significantly cheaper compared to a regular local transport stick and contributes to reducing the financial burden of the students. The decision to introduce the ticket is an important step in the direction of an improved traffic and mobility infrastructure for the young generation.
