Revolution at sea: Captain Arctic sets new standards for sustainable adventures!

The "Captain Arctic" is not just a ship, but a revolutionary adventure on the waves! This impressive 70-meter yacht, the first project of the Selar company, was launched by the first female captain in the Arctic, Sophie Galvagnon. Together with entrepreneurs Julia Bijaoui and Quentin Vacher, she follows a clear vision: travel without the ecological footprint of conventional cruises. With a reduction of 90 percent of CO2 emissions compared to other Arctic cruise ships, the "Captain Arctic" sets new standards for environmentally friendly travel!

The heart of this innovative yacht are five gigantic wing masts, which are equipped with 20,000 square meters of solar cells. This technique, developed by the Breton start-up Cormoran, enables the sails to be carried as with a Swiss pocket knife. The wings are already certified by Bureau Veritas and are to set sail in 2026. During the sailing trips, the two electrical drive engines are also supplied with electricity by hydrogenation. Environmental protection is very important here: Freshwater is obtained from sea water by reverse osmosis, and a pellet kettle ensures environmentally friendly warmth.

an exclusive experience

Travel with the "Captain Arctic" is not for everyone: with only 19 guest cabins and luxurious facilities such as a restaurant, a library and a sauna with an ice bathtub, an exclusive experience is offered. The interiors, designed by designer Joséphine Fossey, radiate minimalist elegance and rely on sustainable materials. Each expedition is directed by experienced polar navigators and researchers who have a scientific laboratory on board. The first adventures begin from November 3 to 9, 2026, with an exciting dive with orcas in Norway. Selar does without solid routes and instead offers flexible expeditions that are based on the wildlife and weather conditions.
